[origin: CN106757847A] In order to produce a seam start yarn with a desired seam projection of at most 10 mm, a top thread section with a sewing needle is first transported by a sewing material (15) from a fabric upper side to a sewing material underside. Subsequently, a top thread starting section (13a) is pulled out with a gripper (19) until the entire top thread starting section (13a) is below the sewing material underside. The upper thread beginning section (13a) is gripped and guided with a top thread catcher (40). Subsequently, the top thread starting portion (13a) is processed so as to result in the seam projection.
