[origin: WO2016020118A1] The invention relates to a packaging unit and to an associated method for producing a packaging unit from individual products (2) that are combined to form a product formation, said products being received on a rectangular receiving portion (3.1) of a flat supporting element (3), wherein the products located on the rectangular receiving portion are fixed together and to the flat supporting element by means of a shrinkable film, wherein the shrunk film (4) has at least two opposite end-side openings (4a, 4b), wherein the flat supporting element (3) has at least one side-wall portion (3.2, 3.3) adjoining the rectangular receiving portion (3.1), said side-wall portion (3.2, 3.3) being pivotable about a pivot axis (SA, SA*). The dimensions of the side-wall portion (3.2), in particular the width (B) and length (L) thereof, are particularly advantageously selected such that said side-wall portion (3.2) fully covers the associated end-side openings (4a, 4b).
