Abstract (en)

[origin: GB2530568A] A surface cleaning apparatus 10 comprises: a water tank 12; a steam generator 20; a pump 30; and a fluid passage 42 leading from the steam generator 20 to a cleaning head 50. A valve 40 blocks and opens the passage 42, preferably blocking it when no electrical power is supplied. A one-way valve 60 in the passage 34 only permits water 13 to flow towards the steam generator 20. The passage 34 may comprise a flexible tube releasably connecting the pump 30 and the valve 60. A valve 90 located in passage 42 directs the steam from the steam generator 20 either to the cleaning head 50 or to a container 92 (which may be the same as, or fluidly connected with, tank 12) via a fluid passage 94 that preferably terminates in a part of the container 92 that is normally vacant and may have a buoyancy member connected to a free end. Valve 90 may direct steam to the container 92 when no electrical power is supplied. The pump 30, heating element(s) 20, device 40 and device 90 may each be controlled via user operable switches. Valves 40, 90 may be ball valves, solenoid valves etc.
