In the reading step (602), a current motion vector (110) of the road user (200, 202) is read in. In the use step (604), motion vectors (110), which have been read in over a period of time, are averaged in order to obtain a characteristic motion value (112) of the road user (200, 202) for the period of time. In the determination step (606), a motion model (102) is determined using the motion value (112).
