[origin: WO2016062601A1] A description is given of a method for forming a closed frame-like spacer for an insulating-glass unit by virtue of a pasty, and subsequently solidifying, extrudate (2), which is bounded by an underside (26), an upper side (25) and two side surfaces (23, 24) and has a desired thickness (D) between the underside (26) and the upper side (25) and a desired width (B) between the two side surfaces (23, 24), being applied to a glass panel (4), along the periphery of the glass panel (4), in such a manner that, at a start of the extrudate (2), the thickness of the latter, over a distance of length (L), has a ramp (16) over which the thickness of the extrudate (2) increases from zero to the desired thickness (D) and, at an end of the extrudate (2), the thickness of the latter decreases from the desired thickness (D) to zero in a manner complementary to the upwardly sloping ramp (16) over the same distance (L), overlapping the ramp (16), and therefore the surface of the ramp (16) forms a limit surface between the start and the end of the extrudate (2), and by virtue of the plastic extrudate (2) being subjected to follow-up treatment, at least that side surface (23) of the extrudate (2) which, following assembly of the insulating-glass unit, bounds the interior of the latter being subjected to mechanical vibration in a region which extends to both sides of the periphery (22) of the limit surface located between the start and the end of the extrudate (2).
