Abstract (en)

[origin: WO2016062712A1] An onboard unit (OBU) for recording the kilometres travelled by a vehicle on a toll road includes a GPS module (17) for running calculation of the vehicle position and the route travelled, a communication unit (23) for communication with a control device (31), and a computer unit with a processor (19) and a memory (15). The computer unit is connected to the GPS module (17), the communication unit (23), and the memory (15). A program (13) and data, such as OBU-ID and vehicle master data, are stored in the memory (15) of the OBU. In addition, the geographic coordinates of a plurality of control polygons, the distance thereof to other control polygons, and the corresponding measured routes, are also stored in the memory (15). The control polygons additionally function to determine whether road segments subject to tolls have been travelled. A travelled route or measuring section is, however, only counted if the result is plausible, i.e. an independent route measurement substantially corresponds to the polygon distances. It is also important that the routes are calculated on the basis of the officially determined measured street segment.
