[origin: WO2016075227A1] The present invention provides a method of manufacturing a filter element (7) for an aerosol generating product (1), and especially a filter plug element (7) for a smoking article, comprising the steps : processing bulk filter material (8) to provide or form a substantially continuous strand (D) of the filter material (8); covering or wrapping the substantially continuous strand (D) of the filter material (8) with at least one layer (9) of sheet material to form a continuous filter rod (R), and forming perforations or holes (17) in the layer (9) of sheet material which covers the continuous filter rod (R) before and/or after the covering or wrapping step.
