[origin: WO2016083020A1] The invention relates to a method for preparing a catalyst comprising an active phase which comprises at least one group-VIIIB metal deposited on an oxide substrate; said method comprising the following steps: a) providing a substrate of oxides comprising alumina, silica, or a silica-alumina; b) impregnating the substrate of oxides of step a) with an aqueous or organic solution comprising at least one salt of a group-VIIIB metal selected among cobalt, nickel, ruthenium and iron, and then drying the obtained product at a temperature of 60°C to 200°C; c) treating the solid obtained in step b) with water vapour at a temperature of 110°C to 195°C for a duration of 30 minutes to 4 hours, in the presence of an air/steam mixture comprising 2% to 50% by volume of water in steam form.
