[origin: WO2016116292A1] The invention relates to a method for electrochemically removing material from a workpiece (12). The invention further relates to a device (15) suitable for removing the material. According to the invention, a mechanically guided relative motion is performed between the workpiece (12) and an electrolyte carrier in the form of a brush or a sponge (14), whereby exact processing of the surface under specified conditions is advantageously enabled. The surface to be processed can be, for example, a bore (13), wherein in this case the sponge (14) is cylindrical and thus exactly matched to the surface of the bore (13).
