[origin: WO2016102643A1] The invention relates to a method for producing a groove in a surface (30) of a workpiece by means of a cutting tool having a plurality of teeth with differing cross sections, by way of which groove cross sections are machined in stages to a desired final dimension, wherein the final groove geometry of the cross section of the groove has a symmetrical trapezoidal geometry with undercut-delimiting side flanks (56, 58) and a groove base (26). To produce the groove, boundary surfaces (20, 22) of a base groove which run symmetrically in relation to normals proceeding from the surface (30) are produced using a first tooth, outer portions of which boundary surfaces form bevels (34, 36) of the final groove which remain unchanged during machining using the further teeth.
