[origin: WO2016110350A1] The invention relates to a method for detecting the passing of a motor vehicle (12) through a road sign gantry (22), having the steps: – receiving information on the surroundings, – detecting road signs (18, 20) in the information on the surroundings, – selecting a first road sign (18) and a second road sign (20) which together form a road sign gantry (22), – acquiring position data for the first road sign (18 )and for the second road sign (20) from the information on the surroundings, – determining a gantry width (24) between the first road sign (18) and the second road sign (20), – determining a first distance (26) of the motor vehicle (12) from the first road sign (18), – determining a second distance (28) of the motor vehicle (12) from the second road sign (20), and – detecting the passing through of the vehicle as a function of the gantry width (24), the first distance (26) and the second distance (28).
