[origin: WO2016113090A1] The invention relates to a detection unit for a device (1) for printing containers (2), comprising: at least one image-capturing device (21) for detecting an optical feature of a container (2); a retaining and centring unit (10) for retaining a container, or means for retaining and releasing retaining and centring units (10), wherein a container (2) retained on a retaining and centring unit (10) can be rotationally driven about its container vertical axis; a sensor unit for determining the rotational position of a container retained on a retaining and centring unit by detecting a coding provided on the retaining and centring unit (10); a computer unit (24) that is connected to the image-capturing device (21) and the sensor unit, wherein the computer unit (24) is designed to determine an alignment variable based on the coding provided on the retaining and centring unit (10) and the detected optical feature of the container (2), and wherein the detection unit has communication means for passing on the alignment variable to at least one container printing device (3.3 - 3.6).
