[origin: WO2016113270A1] The invention relates to a device (1) for eliminating an electric arc (X) in a multi-phase system (2) with the aid of a plurality of switches (S1..S3), by means of which a short-circuit path can be switched between phases (L1..L3). The switches (S1..S3) can be controlled individually, and the device (1) has a controller (4) which is connected to the switches (S1..S3) and is arranged to produce a short-circuit only between those phases (L1..L3) between which an electric arc (X) is detected. The invention further relates to a method for eliminating an electric arc (X), wherein a short-circuit is only produced between those phases (L1..L3) between which an electric arc (X) is detected.
