[origin: WO2016132066A1] The invention relates to a waste storage device (2) comprising: compartments (4) for storing waste; an acquisition unit (U1) for acquiring at least one characteristic (CRI) of waste to be stored in the waste storage device; a processing unit (U2) for obtaining a first datum (DN1) identifying the waste on the basis of the characteristic (CRI); a communication unit (U3) for sending the first datum (DN1) to a remote server (SV) and for receiving a second datum (DN2) in response; and an instruction-supplying unit (U4) for providing a user (UR) with a sorting instruction (CN) obtained on the basis of the second datum (DN2), said sorting instruction (CN) allowing the identification of at least one compartment (4-1, 4-2) of the waste storage device (2) in which the waste (36) is to be stored.
