[origin: WO2016131621A1] The invention relates to a method for operating a sensor device for detecting an object, wherein the sensor device comprises a magnetic field sensor and a sensor unit which is designed for an operating time measurement, comprising the following steps: measuring a magnetic field in the environment of the sensor device by means of the magnetic field sensor in order to determine a measured value corresponding to the measured magnetic field, wherein the sensor unit is deactivated during the measurement of the magnetic field, calculating a first distance of the measured value from a first reference measured value which corresponds to a magnetic field when a measurement area of the magnetic field sensor is free of an object, calculating a second distance of the measured value from a second reference measured value which corresponds to a magnetic field when an object is located in the measurement area of the magnetic field sensor, activating the deactivated sensor unit depending upon the calculated distances, carrying out an operating time measurement in the environment of the sensor device by means of the activated sensor unit, in order to determine data corresponding to the operating time measurement, determining, based on the sensor data, whether an object is located in the environment. The invention further relates to a sensor device and to a computer program product.
