[origin: CA2978648A1] A plate holder (1) for holding a license plate (2) comprises a holder base (10) having, on a first side, a contact surface (100) which extends along a contact plane (A), a license plate (2) resting thereon in a position arranged on the plate holder (1). Two guide rails (11, 12) are arranged on the holder base (10) and extend in parallel to each other, a license plate (2) being slidable between said rails along an insertion direction (E) to arrange the license plate on the contact surface (100), the license plate (2) being held between the guide rails (11, 12) in the position arranged on the plate holder (1). The holder base (10) has, on a second side facing away from the contact surface (100), a placement surface (102), which extends in parallel to the contact plane (A) and which is spaced from the contact surface (100) along a vertical direction (Z) pointing perpendicularly to the contact plane (A), said placement surface being placeable onto an object (3) in order to arrange the plate holder (1) on the object (3), and the holder base (10) tapering from the second side to the first side. The invention provides a plate holder which can be suitably arranged on an object, in particular a metal object, leaving sufficient space between a contact surface and the metal object, and without little risk of, for example, clothes getting caught on the plate holder.
