[origin: WO2016172434A1] According to an aspect, the present embodiments may be associated with a protective covering configured to slip over and at least partially cover an umbrella to provide a user with full body protection against weather elements, while providing for the admittance of light and air therethrough. The protective covering may include a covering member for positioning over and/or connecting to the umbrella and a protective member extending from the covering member. According to another aspect, a protective device may include the umbrella having a canopy and a shaft, as well as a protective member extending from a peripheral edge of the canopy. The shaft may include a telescopic stem configured for extension to a support structure and to support the protective device when configured in its extended position.
