Abstract (en)

[origin: WO2016174047A1] The invention relates to a bottle having a piece of wood for maturing alcoholic beverages and spirits, wherein the piece of wood is incorporated into the bottle wall and is in communication with the interior of the bottle. As a result the liquid can absorb flavors and colorings from the wood also after bottling, wherein in one embodiment, in which the wood forms a part of the bottle wall, an oxidative maturation of the liquid can take place by gas diffusion through the wood, additionally enabling a further development of the flavors and colorings. The piece of wood is designed such that, as the filling level decreases, at least the same proportion or a greater proportion of the wood surface relative to the filling capacity of the bottle can always be wetted with liquid, such that the ratio between the wood surface which can be wetted with liquid and the volume of liquid for smaller liquid contents of the bottle remains the same or increases, or the ratio (V/A or H/A) between the volume of liquid or the liquid filling level and the wood surface which can be wetted with liquid for decreasing filling levels remains the same or decreases.
