According to the invention, in order that panels with recesses provided in the edge regions of the usable surface can be produced easily, quickly, cost efficiently, and precisely, a half-form (1), which comprises a plurality of panel blanks (7) with at least two grooves (6) forming the recesses (11), is divided, in particular substantially parallel to the at least two grooves (6), into multiple half form parts (14), in particular multiple panel blanks (7); the type and/or position of at least one identification mark (16) of the half form parts (14), in particular the panel blanks (7), is detected; the half form parts (14), in particular the panel blank (7), and at least one processing tool (23, 27) of a processing device (24, 28) are aligned to one another according to the detected type and/or position of the at least one identification mark (16); and a locking profile (17, 18) is machined from the half form parts (14), in particular the panel blanks (7), by the processing device (24, 28) on at least one side of the half form parts (14), in particular the panel blanks (7), preferably on two opposite sides.
