[origin: WO2016140573A1] A top loading refuse distributing and compacting device (10) that is adapted to be mounted above or in the top of a refuse collection container (1). The device comprises a frame (12) and an integrated duct (14). The device further has a refuse distributor and compactor assembly with a pivotal first compaction member (20) that is pivotal about a horizontal pivot axis (21) and has opposed compaction faces (23, 24), and a pivotal second compaction member (25), that is hinged to the first compaction member and also has opposed compaction faces (27, 28). This assembly is selectively movable by a drive assembly between and into first and second positions by tilting the first compaction member to the left or right to assume a first inclination, and by tilting the second compaction member to the left or right over a second tilt angle that is greater than said first inclination. In said positions the upward faces of the compaction members jointly form an inclined chute that guides refuse that is dropped into the duct towards the right-hand or left-hand side of the outlet. If the collection container has been sufficiently filled with refuse, the refuse distributor and compactor assembly compacts refuse as it is moved by the drive assembly between said first and second positions.
