[origin: WO2016185022A1] The invention relates to a method for operating a vehicle combination, a correspondingly designed vehicle combination, and a towing vehicle and a work device for such a vehicle combination, said vehicle combination having a towing vehicle and a work device. The towing vehicle has an internal combustion engine and a first machine, which can be operated as a prime mover, and a first axle, which can be driven by means of the internal combustion engine, said internal combustion engine being drivable by means of the first machine. The work device has a second machine, which can be operated as a work machine, and a second axle, which is mechanically coupled to the second machine. When the vehicle combination is in an overrun mode and/or in a braking mode, the vehicle combination can be operated in a first operating mode in which the second machine is operated as the work machine and is driven by means of the mechanical kinetic energy of the second axle while the first machine is operated as the prime mover and drives the internal combustion engine. A part of the energy generated by the second machine can be used to drive the first machine.
