[origin: WO2016186506A1] The invention is among others concerned with means and methods for culturing mammalian kidney cells. In some aspects the method comprises providing a cell suspension of a mammalian kidney or part thereof; culturing cells of the suspension in an adherent cell culture surface; producing a single cell suspension from cells that adhered to said cell culture surface and collecting Chondroitin Sulfate Proteoglycan 4 (CSPG4) positive cells from said single cells suspension. These cells can subsequently be cultured in a culture dish for adherent cells. The cells exhibit mesenchymal stromal like properties but are distinct in that they do not share all these properties. The invention also provides uses and methods with these cells.
