Abstract (en)
[origin: GB2538806A] An electric motor controller provides anti-lock braking (ALB, ABS) of an electric traction motor, 2, for an electric vehicle (e.g. Hybrid, HEV). The electric motor controller, 14, receives a torque demand input signal based on a request, 28, from an operator (i.e. the driver) of the electric vehicle and adjusts the torque demand input signal to provide an adjusted torque demand signal. The adjusted torque demand signal is such that the motor is controlled to reduce the difference between the electric traction motor speed and the estimated speed of the electric vehicle. The motor speed is determined directly from the electric traction motor while the vehicle speed is estimated by analyzing various properties of the vehicle including the estimated vehicle mass, the adjusted torque demand signal and an accelerometer signal (which also includes the tilt/gradient of the vehicle). The controller may adjust the torque demand signal by reducing the maximum torque demand available to the driver.
