[origin: WO2016198457A1] The invention relates to a method and a device for controlling a parameter, for example the profile or the flatness, of a rolled stock (200) in strip form. Cascade controls for this purpose are known in principle in the prior art; as a manipulated variable, they typically vary the volumetric flow or the pressure of the cooling medium that is applied to a roll (300) in a rolling stand during the production of the rolled stock (200) in strip form. In order to be able however to accomplish the cooling of the roll (300) with less expenditure of energy, and consequently at lower cost, it is provided according to the invention that a cooling jacket (160) that can be brought up to the roll (300) and is designed to be variable in its effective length b in the circumferential direction of the roll (300) is used as a final controlling element.
