Abstract (en)

The present invention concerns a method and system for checking an average speed of a vehicle in a section of road. The invention: - captures, by a moving enforcement vehicle capture an image of a number plate of the vehicle, - executes an ANPR algorithm in order to extract figures and characters of the number plate, - memorizes at least the time of the image capture, the extracted figures and characters of the number plate and a location at which the image capture is performed, - checks if the extracted figures and characters of the number plate are memorized two times, - obtains a road shortest path between the locations of the two image captures, - determines if the average speed of the vehicle between the two locations is upper than the information representative of a theoretical maximum speed limitation between the two locations. - notifies it through a display of the enforcement vehicle.
