[origin: WO2017025609A1] The invention relates to a method for producing a cooling channel piston (9) for an internal combustion engine which cooling channel piston has a cooling channel (8) in the piston crown (2) of the cooling channel pistion, wherein the piston crown (2) connects a piston bottom part with piston bosses (4), bolt bores (12), and piston skirts (13), wherein a piston blank (1) having a circumferential collar (3) which protrudes radially in the region of the piston crown (2) is first produced and the collar (3) is then shaped. The method is characterized in that there is a contact region (5) on a top region of the piston skirts (13) and the collar (3) is shaped such that the outer circumferential edge thereof points at a distance to the contact region (5) and forms a defined gap (9), wherein the gap (9) is then sealed by a closure element (10) in order to form a closed cooling channel (8).
