Accordingly, the portable expansion rack comprises the following features. The portable expansion rack comprises: a gripping device (2) which matches a size of a portable control unit (3) flatly formed on the medical device (8) and mechanically connects a portable control unit (3) with the expansion rack (1) to be separable from each other; and a first communication module (4) configured to form a safety-related data link with the medical device (8). Likewise, a relevant method for actuating the medical device is specified. The present invention is capable of combining an expansion rack, which is able to control safety-related functions by using a safety-related wireless protocol, with a portable mobile consumer control device such as a tablet PC or a smartphone which does not meet special safety-related requirements.
