[origin: WO2017059990A1] The invention relates to a method for producing a valve piece (108) for a fuel injector (100), having a region on the valve piece (108) which forms a valve seat (115), wherein the valve piece (108) has, as its basic material (119), a preferably hardened steel, of which the surface, in the region forming the valve seat (115), is coated with a carbon layer (130) of greater hardness than the basic material (119). The invention makes provision for a supporting layer (120) to be formed between the basic material (119) and the carbon layer (130), wherein the hardness of the supporting layer (120) is at least equal to that of the basic material (119).
