[origin: WO2018149713A1] The invention relates to a hazard detector (11) having a detector housing (2), which can be attached to a wall or ceiling, and in which at least one inner detection chamber, at least one sensor unit, and an evaluation/control unit are arranged. The detector housing (2) has at least one passage opening (3) for the surrounding air. In order to change an effective cross section of the at least one passage opening (3), a mechanical positioning device is provided. The latter has a covering element (14), preferably in the form of at least one covering flap (13) or a covering cap, which can be moved between an operating position and a non-operating position by an actuator, wherein the covering element (14) covers at least one passage opening (3) when in the non-operating position and exposes said passage opening when in the operating position. In the non-operating position of the covering element (14), the covering flap (13) or the covering cap forms an effective dust protector for the hazard detector.
