[origin: WO2017081146A1] The invention relates to a device and to a method for detecting derailing of a rail vehicle, wherein measurement data which characterize a driving mode are collected from a multiplicity of wheelsets or bogies (10-1 to 10-n) of the rail vehicle and are compared in a comparison device (40), and wherein the occurrence of derailing is detected when the measurement data of at least one wheelset or bogie differ from the measurement data of the other wheelsets or bogies by at least a predetermined degree.
