[origin: WO2017097341A1] Disclosed herein is a patterned hydroentangled nonwoven sheet material containing at least 25 wt.% of cellulosic pulp, in which a surface area of between 1 and 20 % of at least one surface has been imprinted to form a decorative or informative pattern discernible by visual and/or tactile differences between imprinted and non-imprinted areas. The patterned nonwoven sheet material can be produced by forming a fibrous web comprising thermoplastic fibres and cellulosic pulp, hydroentangling the fibrous web to form a nonwoven sheet materialand drying, and then subjecting the dried nonwoven sheet material to an imprinting action provided by an energy transmitter, in particular using ultrasonic energy, on a patterned anvil at a temperature of less than 100°C to form a patterned nonwoven sheet material.
