Abstract (en)

[origin: WO2017102634A1] A method for camera-based road sign recognition in a motor vehicle comprises the recording of at least one image of an area in front of a vehicle using a camera and the performance of pattern recognition in order to recognise road signs in the at least one recorded image. Following the recognition of a road sign in a first image, a sequence of further images of the area in front of the vehicle is recorded using the camera, the road sign recognised in the first image is tracked in the sequence of further images, and a first speed value is ascertained from a change of size and/or a shift in the position of the recognised and tracked road sign in the respective images over the sequence of further images, which first speed value indicates the speed at which the recognised and tracked road sign is coming towards the camera and/or is moving past the camera. The first speed value is compared with a second speed value that is provided by a speedometer of the motor vehicle and that represents a speed of travel of the motor vehicle. If the difference in the speed values is above a threshold value, the recognised road sign is rejected. Otherwise, the recognised road sign is signalled to a driver and/or a driver assistance system of the motor vehicle.
