[origin: WO2017121789A1] The invention relates to a method for hydrophobising leather, comprising the steps: providing tanned and at least partially dried leather, the free-water content of which is in the range from 0 to 25 wt.% with respect to the weight of the dried leather; treating the leather with a mixture of compressed gas and a hydrophobising agent at a pressure of at least 30 bar in a pressure vessel; and relieving the pressure of the pressure vessel to ambient pressure. Leathers with a hydrophobic surface, as well as thick and firm, deep hydrophobised leathers can be obtained by applying the claimed method, which can be used, for example, for the soles of shoes.
