Abstract (en)

A telescoping device (60) for inclusion in a riser completion system (35) is provided. The telescoping device (60) has an inner member (120) that telescopingly extends out of and into an outer member (110, 115). The telescoping device (60) can be locked in either extended (first) or retracted (second) configurations, or can be in a third configuration where the inner member (120) is free to move relative to the outer member (110, 115). When the telescoping device (60) is in either locked configuration, the inner member (120) is sealed to the outer member (110, 115). The inner (120) or outer (110, 115) member has a varied inner or outer circumference so that as the inner member (120) moves relative to the outer member (110, 115) the seal (117) does not act against either member.
