The invention is characterized by an electrical coupling device (104), which is designed for potential equalization between a first potential point (41) between the first disconnecting switch (91) and the first circuit breaker (81) and a second potential point (42, 421) in the switchgear assembly (200) for opening and closing of the first disconnecting switch (91) without voltage across the isolating distance of the first disconnecting switch. The invention further relates to a converter assembly (1) having the switchgear assembly and to a method for protecting the converter assembly, in which method parallel transformer branches connected to a converter on the alternating voltage side are electrically connected to each other by means of the low-voltage connection before switching of one of the disconnecting switches.
