On the upper side (10, 20), the first lateral edge (I) of the first floor panel (1) abuts against the second lateral edge (II) of the second floor panel (2). A horizontal groove (4) extending into the core (3) is embodied in the second lateral edge (II), with an upper wall (4.1), an inner wall (4.2) and a lower wall (4.3), the lower wall (4.3) being formed from a lower lip (1.1) projecting on the first lateral edge (I), which, on the outer end thereof, has a projection (1.2) that is oriented towards the upper side (10) and has a first locking edge (1.5), and at least one locking element (5) is inserted in the region of the connection point of the two floor panels (1, 2).
