[origin: WO2017148846A1] The invention relates to a gear pump, having at least a first and a second rotatable element (12, 13), wherein the first rotatable element (12) has a toothing system (121) which interacts with a toothing system (131) of the second rotatable element (13); and a housing (2), in which the first and/or the second rotatable element (12, 13) are/is arranged at least partially. According to the invention, at least one transmitter (31) which is arranged on the housing (2) is provided for exciting acoustic waves in the housing (2), and at least one receiver (32) which is arranged on the housing (2) is provided for receiving the acoustic waves which are excited in the housing (3), wherein information about properties of the gear pump and/or a pumping medium can be determined by way of evaluation of a signal which is generated upon receiving of the acoustic waves by the receiver (32). The invention also relates to a method for monitoring a gear pump.
