In order to detect a plurality of features of a piece of luggage (18), it is proposed that the piece of luggage (18) is detected by means of a visual detection device (4), by which an image of the piece of luggage is produced, wherein visual features (20) of the piece of luggage (18) can be extracted from the image of the piece of luggage, and wherein a description of the piece of luggage can be generated from the extracted visual features (20) of the piece of luggage (18).
