[origin: WO2017153960A1] An apparatus for cutting tyres comprises a frame (1), an accommodating zone (2) intended to receive a tyre (31) to be cut, lateral means (5, 6) for holding a tyre, a detector (4) that is able to detect a central zone of a tyre (31), blades (7) that are mounted so as to slide between a spaced-apart position away from the tread and a working position in which they pass into the sidewall (32) of a tyre, and a controller (9) that ensures that the blades (7) only pass into the sidewalls (32) of the tyre (31) when they are above the tread (33) thereof. The lateral holding means (5, 6) comprise a vertically sliding jaw (6) that is able to press against the heel (34) of a tyre (31) and a part (5) having two arms (37) that each bear a roller (38) that is able to come into contact with an interior surface (35) of the tread (33) of a tyre, the jaw (6) and the part (5) being diametrically opposite with respect to the internal circumference of a tyre. When they are in the working position, the blades (7) pass into the sidewalls (32) of a tyre (31) received between the two arms (37) so as to stabilize the cutting zone.
