[origin: WO2017167551A1] The invention relates to a device and a method for cladding a preferably hot steel slab (3), the device comprising: an unwinding device (6) for unwinding and placing a metal strip (4) at least on one side of the slab (3); a roll stand (5A) arranged in line with the unwinding device (6) for the metal strip (4) and used to clad the slab (3) by rolling the slab (3) with the metal strip (4) arranged thereon to form a cladded semi-finished product. In order to carry out the cladding in a more efficient and space-saving manner, the roll stand (5A) is embodied as a reversing roll stand (5) according to the invention.
