Die Erfindung betrifft einen Spritzapparat (10,60) zum Kühlen eines metallischen Strangs in einer Stranggießmaschine, bei dem wenigstens ein Mehrfachdüsenkopf (16) und wenigstens ein Schaltventil (26, 28, 30) vorgesehen sind, wobei der Mehrfachdüsenkopf wenigstens eine erste und eine zweite Düse (46, 48, 50) aufweist, wobei das Schaltventil stromaufwärts des Mehrfachdüsenkopfes angeordnet ist, wobei das Schaltventil in Strömungsverbindung mit allen zweiten Düsen in dem Mehrfachdüsenkopf steht, um eine Zufuhr von Spritzflüssigkeit zu allen zweiten Düsen freizugeben oder zu sperren.
