[origin: EP3457634A1] The present disclosure generally discloses a data collection control capability that is configured to support collection of management plane performance data in a communication network. The data collection control capability may be configured to be applied within the context of a communication network, including network devices that obtain management plane performance data and management devices to which management plane performance data is provided. The data collection control capability may be configured to support collection of management plane performance data based on application, at the network devices, of management plane performance data collection models configured to compress the amount of management plane performance data transferred from the network devices to management devices. The data collection control capability may be configured to automate generation and modification of the management plane performance data collection models that are applied at the network devices for reducing the amount of management plane performance data transferred from the network devices to management devices.
