[origin: GB2550429A] A solar water heating apparatus 1 comprises at least one enclosed container 2 configured to hold a volume of water; an open-topped housing 3 configured to receive the container 2, and a top cover 4 configured to close the open top of the housing 3 and to allow the transmission of solar radiation there-through. The container 2 comprising an outer surface having a portion configured to face upwards towards the top cover 4 when the water container 2 is located in the housing 3, the container 2 and housing 3 configured so that the width of the container 2 is greater than the height of the container 2 when the container 2 is located in the housing 3. The housing comprising two outer skins (3a, 3b, fig 5) preferably made of polyethylene with an insulating material such as polyurethane between the skins. Preferably there are multiple parallel containers fluidly connected to allow water to circulate through the containers.
