[origin: WO2017207131A1] The invention relates to an apparatus for printing on containers (2), having a container transport path on which the containers (2) for treatment are moved from a container inflow (1.1) to a container outflow (1.2) in a transport direction (A), the container transport path being formed by a plurality of transport elements (6), which can be driven so as to circulate about a vertical machine axis (MA) and each have a plurality of printing stations (8), and on which the containers (2) are held and are moved, centred and/or controlled by means of a holding and centring unit (10). The containers (2), together with the holding and centring unit (10), are passed from a first transport element to a subsequent second transport element in order to be printed on. The printing stations (8) of a first transport element after the container inflow (1.1) have means for defining a printing position, and a first image portion is printed on the containers (2) at the printing stations (8) of the first transport element. Communication means (20) are provided at the printing stations (8) of the transport elements, for the wireless communication of a value defining the printing position from a printing station (8) of the first transport element to a printing station (8) of the second transport element, the printing station (8) of the second transport element being configured to receive the value defining the printing position. The printing station (8) of the second transport element is configured to print on the container (2) in a container wall region on the basis of the received value defining the printing position.
