Abstract (en)

[origin: WO2017203179A1] The invention relates to a method for determining the flow rate through a cross-section (or transect) of a water course at an observation site of the water course, from images taken by a camera onsite. The method comprises in particular a step of measuring (E1, E2, E3) the topography of the observation site in a low-water period so as to generate a digital model of the terrain, a step of determining (E4) the height of the water surface at the cross-section by extracting a water zone in the images captured by the camera and superimposing the water zone and the digital model of the terrain, a step of determining (E5) the flow velocity in water columns present at the cross-section, and a step of determining (E6) the flow rate of water through the cross-section from said flow velocity, from said height of water surface and from the digital model of the terrain.
