[origin: WO2017220059A1] The invention relates to a method of producing D-xylonate and to a coryneform bacterium. It has been found in accordance with the invention that it is possible to achieve a very high yield of enantiomerically pure D-xylonate, proceeding from D-xylonate as substrate, with coryneform bacteria in which the activity of the IolR gene which encodes a regulator of myo-inositol metabolism, called IolR gene hereinafter, has been reduced or eliminated, or in which the IolR gene has been at least partly deleted. The invention therefore provides a method of preparing D-xylonate and a coryneform bacterium as production strain, in which the activity of the IolR gene in the production strain is reduced or eliminated compared to the wild form or a mutant of the wild form, or wherein the IolR gene has been partly or completely deleted.
