[origin: WO2018050390A1] The invention relates to an apparatus (1) and a method for switching medium and high voltages, comprising at least one isolating switch (2) for electrically isolating and/or connecting a current path by means of at least one isolating contact (3) having at least two contact pieces (11), wherein the at least one isolating contact (3) has two connection sides (4, 5), with in each case at least one contact piece (11) and with in each case at least one electrical connection (6, 7), and wherein a vacuum tube (8) is arranged on at least one connection side (4, 5). At least one carrier (9) is included for the at least one isolating switch (2). The at least one vacuum tube (8) is arranged in the at least one insulator (10).
