[origin: WO2018024853A1] A conditioning apparatus for conditioning a gaseous medium (12) to form a conditioned gaseous process medium (14) comprises an inlet connection unit (36) and an outlet connection unit (38), between which there is formed a flow path for gaseous medium (12) having one or more conditioning stages (40), of which at least one comprises a heat exchanger (72). The heat exchanger (72) has a heat exchanger chamber (76) in which a heat exchanger element (78; 118) is at least partially accommodated and to which gaseous medium (12) for conditioning can be supplied, wherein, in the heat exchanger (72), there are sensitive material regions which can be damaged by the gaseous medium (12). A heat exchanger protection system (100) is provided by means of which such sensitive regions of the heat exchanger (72) can be impinged on with a protective gas (110). Also specified are a method for conditioning a gaseous medium, and an installation and a method for treating workpieces.
