[origin: WO2018033554A1] The invention relates to an improved system for producing different types of value or security documents (100) and for increasing the availability of the production systems (1000) for these documents, wherein said system is suitable for producing value and security documents (100) from starting material pieces in at least two processing steps of a processing schedule. The system is formed by (a) system modules (3100, 3200, 3300, 3400, 3500) designed for carrying out the at least two processing steps, (b) at least one transport unit (4100, 4200, 4300, 4400) connecting the system modules for the starting material pieces provided for producing the value and security documents, and (c) a system control unit (2000) designed for controlling the system modules and the at least one transport unit, wherein at least two system modules are provided for carrying out at least one of the at least to processing steps, wherein all system modules designed for carrying out a second processing step are connected to system modules designed for carrying out a previous first processing step by means of at least one transport unit, and wherein optionally all system modules designed for carrying out the second processing step are connected to system modules designed for carrying out a subsequent third processing step by means of at least one transport unit, and wherein the at least one transport unit can be actuated by the system control unit, such that the starting material pieces can be supplied to a respective one of multiple system modules designed for carrying out a processing step.
