Abstract (en)

[origin: WO2018072966A1] The invention relates to, inter alia, a method for operating rail vehicles (30, 40, 50), which travel on a route (20) or a route network and which are each fitted with a vehicle-side train protection unit (200) and a central unit (60) that monitors the rail vehicles (30, 40, 50) and is communicatively connected to each vehicle-side train protection unit (200). According to the invention, in the event of a failure of a vehicle-side train protection unit (200) of a rail vehicle (40), hereafter referred to as failed rail vehicle (40), control signals (S) are sent from the central unit (60) to a rail vehicle (30, 50) travelling behind the failed rail vehicle (40) or to a rail vehicle (30, 50) travelling in front of the failed rail vehicle (40), which permit, in particular request, the rail vehicle (30, 50) travelling in front or behind to approach the failed rail vehicle (40), to couple to same and to form a new trainset, which can continue its journey, monitored by the vehicle-side train protection unit (200) of the rail vehicle (30, 50) travelling in front or behind.
